Wynona ‘Nona’ Byrd of Bluegrove


Wynona (Nona) Byrd, 88, of Bluegrove, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Henrietta with Rev. Gregg Parr, pastor of the Vashti and Bellevue Methodist Churches, officiating. Burial will be in the Bluegrove Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.

Mrs. Byrd was born Dec. 17, 1926 in Concho County to John Franklin and Lillie Rebecca (Hall) Blaylock. She married Jessie Lee Byrd on Sept. 28, 1946 in Eden, Texas. Mrs. Byrd was a bookkeeper for JAC Electric Company for 45 years and was the church pianist and organist for the Bellevue Methodist and the Bluegrove Methodist Church. She sold eggs at the age of 9 to pay for her piano lessons. Mrs. Byrd was a member of the Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jess; four brothers, Willis, Raymond, Jim and Arley; and one sister, Inez.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Bradberry and husband Meredith of Byers; a son, Jimmy Byrd and wife Jamie of Archer City; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Davis Funeral Home from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday.
