Henrietta FFA wins sweepstakes; teams advance to state


Henrietta FFA had 37 chapter members put into practice FFA motto, “Learning to do – Doing to Learn…” during the Area IV FFA Leadership Development Events competition in Stephenville, Nov. 22. Six of Henrietta’s LDE teams advanced to state competition on the Sam Houston State University campus in Huntsville, Dec. 5-6.

Teams must place first or second in their respective competition event in order to advance. Those advancing are Lizzie Riordan, Greenhand Creed Speaking, first place; Josey Cleveland, Darbey Hood and Kristen Riddle, Public Relations, first place; Shelby Anders, Garrett Duncan, Jacobi Reynolds and Marshall Roberts, Greenhand FFA Quiz second place; Mikayla Graham, Job Interview second place; Lindsey Crafton, Laramie Dunn, Caden Robinson and Sierra Burkhart, Radio Broadcasting, second place; and Kolton Beeler, Justin Koetter, Zoie Parkey, Chris Reel and Adriana Velez, Senior Agricultural Skill Demonstration, second place.

All FFA competition district and areas (regions) are designated by geographical location as compared to using traditional UIL school classification. Henrietta’s Area IV region is made up of 77 schools located in 23 counties across north central and western Texas. FFA chapters within Area IV are from schools with UIL classifications raging in size from 1A to 5A.

Other Henrietta FFA teams competing and finishing in the top eight in their respective Area IV event are Agricultural Issues Forum, Zach Bloodworth, Connor Duncan, Chance Edgett, Tejas Edwards, Tyler McMurry and Caedran Nelson; Chapter Agricultural Quiz, Kolton Beeler, Josey Cleveland, and Connor Duncan; Senior Chapter Conducting, Macey Baber, Conner Chambers, Kayla Francisco, Madeline Koetter, Chelsey Pryor, Rebecca Riggins and Makenzie White; Greenhand Chapter Conducting; Maddie Brown, Addie Duncan, Kristen Hoff, Katie Martin, Sydnie Nichols, Jacobi Reynolds and Kaitlyn Williams.

Henrietta FFA earned the sweepstakes award in district competition on Nov. 12 for the fourth time in five years.

First place winners in the Wichita District are the Greenhand Chapter Conducting team, Lizzie Riordan for Greenhand Creed speaking, the Greenhand FFA Quiz team, Mikayla Graham for job interview, the Radio Broadcast team, the Chapter Agricultural Quiz team and the Senior Agricultural Skills Demonstration team. Placing second are the Agricultural Issues Forum team, Public Relations team and Senior Chapter Conducting team.

Other Henrietta FFA leadership teams faring well at the district level are the Agriculture Advocacy team of Kandon Bennett, Luke Brock, Keaton Davis, Quint Lewis, Brennan Nelson, Madison Roberts and Austen Trent in third place; and Maddie Brown, who took fifth place in Senior Creed Speaking.

FFA LDE’s center around providing “real world” situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization.
