Lady Cats, Lady Pirates fall in area round of playoffs

Volleyball season ended for Henrietta and Petrolia last week in the area round of the playoffs.

The Lady Cats fell to a powerful Peaster squad in three sets Saturday, 20-24, 26-28, 18-25, to close the 2014 season at 29-12. Henrietta claimed the District 9-3A championship with a 13-1 record before moving on for a bi-district win.

Senior Sierra Burkhart led Henrietta’s offensive attack in the area playoff with 14 kills, followed by senior Taylor Powell with 11 kills. Kamryn Weaver, a junior, had seven kills, followed by freshman Maddie Brown with six. Junior Kenzie Kirk had one kill.  Freshman Lizzie Riordan and senior Addie McDonnell scored one ace each.

Petrolia fell to Sterling City in five sets Thursday, Nov. 6, 25-17, 22-15, 26-28, 26-24, 8-15.

Brittney Ablia led the charge with 24 kills, four aces and four blocks. Shelby Alexander had four blocks and Kayla Heflin finished with eight digs.

The lady Pirates closed the 2014 season with a 20-11 record.
