Lady Cats, Lady Pirates earn bi-district volleyball wins

Clay County’s varsity volleyball teams have advanced past the bi-district playoff round. Henrietta’s Lady Cats claimed a win over Whitesboro in a three-set sweep, while the Lady Pirates of Petrolia battled back to defeat Albany in four sets.

Henrietta

Henrietta overcame a slow start against Whitesboro in the first set for a 25-20, and won the second and third sets, 25-16, 25-17, for the bi-district trophy.

Sierra Burkhart led the Lady Cats with 13 kills, followed by Taylor Bennett with 11 kills and an ace from the service line. Kenzie Kirk and Kamryn Weaver scored four kills each. Kirk also scored an ace. Hollie Thomas scored three kills while Maddie Brown had two. Sami Morrow and Addie McDonnell scored one ace each.

Henrietta travels to Jacksboro Saturday to face Peaster for area. Game time is set for 2 p.m.

Petrolia

After taking a 19-25 loss in the first set of Tuesday’s bi-district match, Petrolia rallied for a win over Albany, 26-23, 25-15, 25-19.

Brittney Ablia led the Lady Pirate squad with 10 kills and five aces. Shelby Alexander scored six kills.

Petrolia faces Sterling City in the area round. Game time is tentatively set for 7 p.m. Thursday in Eastland.
