HJH Lady Cat runners win third title, ready for district


Led by Emily Longoria, Henrietta’s junior high Lady Cats earned their third-straight team title Thursday, Oct. 2 in the Wichita Falls Cross Country Invitational. It was also Longoria’s third first place finish this year.

Henrietta will be looking for a district title on Oct. 20. The 9-3A meet is set to begin at 9 a.m. at Kiwanis Park in Wichita Falls.

Longoria, Abby Zamzow and Addison Hoff finished one, two, three in the two-mile race to put the competition out of reach. Lady Cats Kylee Halter and Brooklyn McMurry rounded out the top 20.

Longoria finished the course in 13 minutes, 14 seconds, outpacing most varsity runners. Zamzow finished in 13:47, followed by Hoff with a time of 13:57. Halter took 11th place with 15:26 and McMurry was 20th with 16:53.

Also competing for Henrietta in the junior high race, Kaci Williams finished with a time of 18:36, Isabela Garcia finished in 18:38, Natalie Streeter finished in 19:04, Lindsey Yarbrough finished in 21:00, Bailey Ervin finished in 21:30, Daniella Garcia finished in 21:41 and Viviana Garcia finished in 21:42.

Daniel Wimberley took fifth place in the junior high boys’ individual standings with a time of 12:47, followed by teammate Josh Patin with 17:15.

Bearcat Hunter Smith finished the varsity boys race with a time of 22:06.

In the varsity girls’ race, Lady Cat Kelton Matthews finished in 17:03, followed by Tee Lee Cook with 17:05, Madeline Koetter with 17:39, Rebecca Riggins with 21:21, Madysen Gully with 21:21 and Michaela Hedrick with 21:31.
