Fletcher finds end zone five times in Bearcat win


With five touchdowns from Cody Fletcher, the undefeated Henrietta Bearcats earned a spot in the top tier of 2-3A With a 55-14 win over Nocona in Friday’s district opener.

The Bearcats join Cisco, ranked No. 1 in the state, along with Eastland and City View. The Cisco Lobos defeated Holliday 54-7 on Friday, while Eastland blanked Millsap, 56-0, and City View defeated Jacksboro, 66-40.

Fletcher finished with 143 yards rushing for three touchdowns, and added two TDs with three catches for 156 yards.

The junior Bearcat scored first on a 17-yard run in the first quarter, followed by a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Riley Watson. Henrietta closed the first quarter with a 27-0 lead with a 21-yard scoring run by Logan Carter and a 29-yard touchdown on the legs of Kandon Bennett.

Fletcher scored twice more in the second quarter, on a 44-yard run and a 73-yard pass from Watson. In the third quarter, Fletcher ran 76 yards for a touchdown.

Henrietta’s final scoring drive was capped with a 13-yard Landon Davis run.

Jameson Dowell scored on seven of eight extra-point attempts.

The Bearcats made big gains with their 194-yard passing game. Watson completed six of seven passes for 180 yards. On the ground, the Bearcats finished with 213 yards on 27 caries

Nocona scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter and run of equal yardage in the third.

The Indians finished with 140 yards rushing on 35 carries and competed 16 of 31 pass attempts. Henrietta’s defense claimed three interceptions.

This week, Henrietta travels to Cisco in what will be its toughest opponent of the season.
