Lady Cats 15-10 going into district; defeat Burk in four

Henrietta earned a win over Burkburnett in four sets on the volleyball court Tuesday in the team’s final match before district play.

District 9-3A action begins Friday when the Lady Cats (15-10) host Bowie (15-11). Henrietta’s JV team begins at 4 p.m., followed by varsity.

Henrietta took a 1-0 lead in the match, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 25-11 in the first set, but Burkburnett bounced back with a 16-25 win in the second. The Lady Cats claimed wins in the third and fourth sets, 25-23 and 25-20, respectively.

Taylor Bennett led the Lady Cats with 27 kills and one ace, 10 digs, a solo and an assisted block. Sierra Burkhart followed with 12 kills, one solo block and one assisted block. Kamryn Weaver had five kills and two assisted blocks, followed by Hollie Thomas with three kills, 11 digs, one solo and one assisted block. At setter, Kenzie Kirk had 17 assists and 10 digs. Libero Lizzie Riordan finished with seven digs and Callie Page had four digs.

The Lady Cats competed in the Nocona Buckle Up for Lane’s Sake Tournament over the weekend, finishing in a tie for seventh. The tournament bracket was made up of 32 teams.

In pool play, Henrietta defeated City View, 25-13, 25-9; S and S Consolidated, 25-16, 25-9; and Burkburnett, 25-17, 25-18; and took a loss to Archer City.

In all pool matches combined, Burhart totaled 29 kills, two solo blocks and an assisted block. Bennett tallied 26 kills, 15 aces, 22 digs and two assisted blocks. Weaver had 16 kills, one assisted block and two digs. Maddie Brown scored nine kills and had two solo and one assisted blocks. Hollie Thomas finished with four kills and 17 digs, Kirk put up 80 set assists, scored two kills and had 25 digs. Riordan finished with 38 digs. Callie Page had one solo block.

Henrietta opened bracket play with a loss to Callisburg. Burkhart scored five kills, and had two solo blocks Bennett and Brown scored four kills each. Bennett also had nine digs. Weaver scored three kills. Kirk had 15 set assists and eight digs Thomas and Riordan and 11 and nine digs, respectively.

The Lady Cats defeated Iowa Park 25-23, 28-26. Bennett scored 14 kills, and had nine digs and two assisted blocks. Burkhart scored five kills, and had four assisted blocks. Weaver and Brown scored four and three kills, respectively. McDonell had seven digs Kirk put up 24 set assists Thomas had eight digs. Riordan had six digs.

Henrietta fell to Bonham, 21-25, 25-27. Bennett scored 10 kills and six aces, and had two assisted blocks and 10 digs. Burkhart scored seven kills and had one assisted block. Brown scored two kills and had six digs. Thomas had 10 digs. Peyton Lee had five digs, and scored one ace. Kirk had 17 set assists and 10 digs. Riordan and Page had four digs each.
