A 57-year-old woman was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on Hwy. 287 near Lone Star Road, approximately nine miles south of Henrietta, early Thursday morning.

DPS Troopers investigating the accident believe Lucretia Avery of New Mexico was on or near the center stripe dividing the two northbound lanes when she was hit. The driver of the truck, Isaacs Rollins, 36, of El Paso, reported the accident at 4:21 a.m.

DPS spokesperson Tony Fulton said the Rollins was traveling north on Hwy. 287 in a 1999 Kenworth when he came up on a 1996 Range Rover SUV stopped on the shoulder of the highway with its lights turned off. As the driver moved into the left lane to avoid the SUV, the truck struck the woman with its left front fender.

Investigators believe Avery was the driver of the Range Rover. Fulton said Avery only recently moved to New Mexico, and had a Texas driver’s license with an address in Livingston.

Avery’s remains have been taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
