A 3-year-old girl died and a 5-year-old boy was transported to an area hospital in separate drowning incidents this past week.
Lily Anna White of Vernon was in the care of an aunt at a home approximately one-half mile south of Petrolia when she fell into a nearby stock pond and drowned at about 7 p.m. Friday, June 13.
According to a justice of the peace report, White and a 7-year-old boy were playing in a fenced yard. The children left the yard and walked to the stock tank about 100 yards from the home. The boy returned to the residence and told White’s aunt that the girl was drowning.
The girl’s aunt attempted to resuscitate the girl until first responders from the Petrolia VFD and Clay County EMTs arrived. White was transported by ambulance to United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, were she was pronounced dead at 8:49 p.m.
On Monday, June 16, a Henrietta boy nearly drowned in a residential swimming pool east of Henrietta, but was revived by the homeowner, who is a nurse. The accident occurred at about 3 p.m.
Sheriff Kenny Lemons said the boy was fully revived and alert when medics arrived. He was transported by helicopter to United Regional Hospital for observation.
According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, 26 children have drowned in 2014.
