Ward 2 Alderman Mike Roberts submitted a letter of resignation from the Henrietta City Council on Tuesday. Roberts asked that his resignation become effective immediately.
Remaining city council members will consider accepting Robert’s resignation during their July 14 meeting. The council has the option to appoint a new alderman, or to continue with only three council members until the next city election.
Roberts was elected to serve on the city council in May 2011.
“I would like to say that making this decision has been difficult, as representing the citizens of Henrietta has been an opportunity for which I am grateful,” said Roberts in his letter.
Roberts said that the increased time and energy spent dealing with the affairs of the city has begun have an effect on his business, as well as his health due to stress. Roberts said that he is conscious of the need to provide support to the citizens of Henrietta, but because of those reasons, he is unable to continue to do so in an effective manner.
“I wish the City of Henrietta and the city council every success in the future and thank you for the opportunities I have been given during my time here,” said Roberts.
