Mataska bats Lady Pirates to lead in quarterfinal series


Kody Mataska drove in the winning run to give the Petrolia Lady Pirates a 3-1 win over Archer City in game 1 of the regional semifinal on Friday.

With the score tied at one in the sixth inning, Mataska came to the plate and singled to score Abby Anderson, and allowed Kirsten Kenyon to reach home on a passed ball.

Katie Cummings got the win for the Petrolia Lady Pirates. She allowed one run over seven innings. She struck out five, walked none and surrendered eight hits.

The Petrolia Lady Pirates broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Kody.

Archer’s lone run of the ballgame came in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Lucido. 

The series continues at 10 a.m. today in Graham.
