Zelma Walker Wright of Bowie


Zelma Walker Wright (Stembridge), 90, of Bowie, passed away April 21, 2014 in Bowie.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at the First United Methodist Church of Bowie with Mona Millard and Robert Slayton officiating, with arrangements under White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.

She was born January 26, 1924 in Normangee, Okla., to Cleveland and Lenora (Jordan) Walker. She was a rancher for many years in Bellevue after the death of her husband, Bill Wright. After retirement, she lived in Bowie and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bowie. She was a member of the Bowie VFW Ladies Auxiliary and had served as officer in many different local and state positions. She was a member of Shelomi No. 43 Daughters of the Nile in Wichita Falls where she helped with fund raisers in support of the Shriner Hospitals for Children. She enjoyed any endeavor that helped children to have a better live.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Wright; two brothers, Norman Walker and Dewey Walker; and three sisters, Faye Walker freeman, Mavis Walker Sanford, Lois Walker Reynolds (Weedin).

Survivors include a son, Donald Ray Foster and wife Judy of Washington State; a daughter, Kathy Wright Hammack and husband Bill of Bellevue; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
