Billy Don Starnes of Lakeside City


Billy Don Starnes, 88, of Lakeside City, formally of Vashti, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 13 at the Vashti United Methodist Church with Brother Tommy John Mayo of Bellevue officiating. Burial will be in the Vashti Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.

Mr. Starnes was born May 18, 1925 in Vashti to Forrest and Eula Grace (Donnell) Starnes. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He married Varue Gibson on Oct. 21, 1950 in Petrolia. Mr. Starnes was a Dairy Farmer and served two terms on the Clay County Pioneer Association’s Nine-Man Board in 1971 and 1987. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bowie and the Vashti United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Varue Starnes of Lakeside City; one daughter, Dana Moore and husband Allen of Holiday; one son, Britt Starnes and wife Tammi of Dallas; one sister, Mary Kosteck of Santa Fe, N.M.; one brother, Eddie Starnes and wife Fredda of Aurora, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

The family will be at Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m.
