Ruby Nell Rainey of Stigler, Okla.


Ruby Nell Rainey, 88, of Stigler, Okla., formerly of Odessa, died Feb. 15, 2014 in Muskogee, Okla.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19 at R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Reverend Gene Murry officiating.  Burial will be in Stigler Cemetery under the direction of King and Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler, Okla.

Mrs. Rainey was born Dec. 4, 1925 in Wichita, Kan., to Marion Irvin Shelton and Jessie (Nickles) Shelton.  She grew up in Bluegrove, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class.  After graduation she married Gaylan Rainey in Bluegrove.  They then moved to Henrietta and Sweetwater before settling in Odessa in 1948.  She began a career with J.C. Penny Company as a bookkeeper in the mid 1950’s and retired in 1983.  She sewed, made wedding cakes, and was a Sunday school teacher.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Shelton, Raymond Shelton, James Shelton; and one sister, Elsie Reid.

Survivors include her husband, Gaylan Rainey of Eufaula, Okla.; one daughter, Annette Cariker and husband Bill of Stigler; one sister, Ruth DeMoss and husband Bayless of Ponca City, Okla.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
