Basil L. Cunningham of Dean


Basil L. Cunningham, 81, of Dean, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, in Wichita Falls.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18 at the Dean Baptist Church with Rev. Shawn Bitner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.

Mr. Cunningham was born July 29, 1932 in Nocona to Ed and Mary Cunningham. He was a graduate of Nocona High School and in 1957 married MaryAnn Donnell of Saint Jo. Basil was a member of the Dean Baptist Church and the Petrolia Lion’s Club. Basil served as a sargent in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Morgan Ford Company in Nocona, the General Motors Plant in Grand Prairie, and spent more than 30 years as a Field Service Mechanic for the Texas Highway Department. He worked on FFA projects with his sons, houses after the 1979 tornado, scouting campouts, the Daisy BB Gun Blue Book and his antique shop.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, E.L. and Stanley Cunningham; and a sister, Almeda Bell.

Survivors include his wife, MaryAnn Donnell Cunningham of Dean; two sons, Terry Cunningham of Stillwater, Okla., and Gary and wife Shelly Cunningham of Wichita Falls; his mother-in-law, Mary Nell Donnell of Wichita Falls; a sister, Anna Ruth Tucker of Wichita Falls; and two grandchildren.

The family will be at Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta for visitation from 6-7 p.m. Monday.

Memorials can be made to the Dean Baptist Church or a charity of choice.
