Jury convicts Louisiana man for possession of a firearm by a felon

A Clay County jury found Brent Allen Touchet of Westlake, La., guilty Wednesday on one charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

On Jan. 2, 2013, the 36-year-old man was stopped on Hwy. 287 for a traffic violation, at which time law enforcement officers noticed a handgun magazine in the vehicle. Touchet consented to a search of the vehicle, during which officers found a pistol and ammunition.

Touchet was convicted of a felony offense of robbery on Jan. 24, 2003 in Calcasieu Parish, La.

Jury selection took place Tuesday with testimony beginning Wednesday morning. Touchet will be sentenced March 28, allowing the defense 60 days to bring in witnesses from Louisiana.
