Tractor restoration wins grand for Grunseich

John Grunseich of the Bellevue FFA earned grand champion and senior showmanship in the second annual Clay County Ag Mechanics Show, held in conjunction with the junior livestock show and youth fair, Saturday. To earn the award, Grunseich spent more than a year restoring a 1971 John Deere 50-20 tractor.

Bellevue FFA also earned reserve champion honors with a 26-foot gooseneck float trailer, a class project. Jordan Davis, a Clay County 4-H member earned junior showmanship with a solar heater constructed from soda cans and, plywood and plexiglass.

Results are as follows:

Ag Mechanics

  • Grand champion — John Grunseich, Bellevue FFA, 1971 John Deere 50-20
  • Reserve champion — Bellevue FFA, 16-foot gooseneck float trailer


  • Senior showmanship — John Grunseich, Bellevue FFA
  • Junior showmanship — Jordan Davis, Clay County 4-H

Agricultural machinery — First place, Petrolia FFA, hay feeder.

Livestock equipment — First place, Heather Goolsby, Petrolia FFA, show box.

Recreational, creative and wildlife equipment — First place, Zeke Mayo, Midway FFA, chuck box for a truck; second, Petrolia FFA (class), smoker; third, Jordan Davis, Clay County 4-H, solar heater; fourth, Chance Horn, Midway FFA, deer feeder.

Trailers — First place, Bellevue FFA, 26-foot gooseneck float trailer; second place, Breannah Malaer, Bellevue FFA, 10-foot UTV trailer
