Bowman pleads no contest in death of grandson; five reach deals


Danny Eugene Bowman of Deer Creek pled no contest on Monday, Dec. 16, on one charge of abandoning or endangering a child – criminal negligence in the Aug. 2 death of his 9-year-old grandson.

Bowman received two years community supervision and fined $500 for the state jail felony.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Bowman had left Daniel Wiley of Harrisburg, Ill., and a 13-year-old boy at his home without proper adult supervision. During his absence, the two boys took a shotgun from the home and the weapon was accidentally discharged, resulting in the death of Wiley.

Also reaching plea agreements in the 97th District Court on Dec. 16 are:

Greta Marie McAdams — Possession of marijuana, more than 5 pounds, less than 50 pounds, a third degree felony for a March 28 offense. McAdams pled no contest, and was sentenced to five years community supervision and fined $1,000.

Robert Lee Clark — Possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 2, more than 1 gram, less than 4 grams, a third-degree felony, for a Dec. 13, 2012 offense. Clark was sentenced to four years community supervision and fined $2,000.

Willie Joe Neal, Jr. — Possession of marijuana, more than 4 ounces, less than 5 pounds, a state jail felony, for a May 27 offense. Neal was sentenced to thee years community supervision, fined $500 and must pay $140 restitution.

Timothy Don Houser — Two charges of exploitation of an elderly person, a third-degree felony, for a Feb. 17 offense. Houser was sentenced to 10 years community supervision for each count, to run concurrently, and fined $2,500.
