Pirate close season on high note; Hanusch passes for 334 yards

After struggling through district play, Petrolia ended it’s 2013 season on a high note Friday night, claiming a 27-7 win over Perrin-Whitt.

The Pirates opened the season with a 3-0 record, and closes at 4-6 overall and 1-4 in 8-A, Div. II play.

It was a big night for Pirate Quarterback Dustin Hanusch, who completed 21 of 30 pass attempts for 334 yards. Hanusch’s favorite target for the night was Bandy Mataska, who took nine passes 182 yards, and Ryan Harrison with five receptions for 108 yards. Petrolia rushed 55 yards on 14 carries. Mataska took four carries for 13 yards.

Hanusch and Mataska put Petrolia on the scoreboard in the second quarter with a 30 yard pass play, and again with a 53-yard strike through the air. The Pirates scored again in the third quarter on a one-yard run by Mataska. Harrison scored in the fourth, taking a Hanusch pass 35 yards.

Perrin-Whitt’s only touchdown came in the second quarter on a four-yard run.
