With a slim 28-25 win over Alvord on Friday night, Henrietta secured a playoff berth. Second place in District 5-2A Div. II will be decided next week, when Henrietta travels to Nocona.
Cody Fletcher led the Bearcat ground game with 115 yards on 13 carries, including two first-half touchdowns. Fletcher scored on a three-yard jaunt in the first quarter, and a 26-yard run in the second quarter. Quarterback Riley Watson added a three-yard scramble in the first quarter.
With the early strikes, Henrietta put 20-points on the scoreboard before Alvord could find the end zone.
When Alvord did find it, they found it often, scoring the next four touchdowns.
The Bulldogs scored two in the second quarter on runs of three and two yards by Joe Randall, one in the third on an 18-yard run from Randall, and again in the fourth on a 15-yard Randall run put Alvord on top 25-20.
Henrietta recuperated in the fourth quarter, finding paydirt on a five-yard run from Watson. Cody Fletcher topped the effort with a two-point conversion run.
The Bearcats finished with 223 yards rushing on 44 carries. Watson completed six of nine pass attempts for 87 yards, including two completions to Conner Fletcher for 64 yards. Watson kept the ball 18 times for 75 yards and Hayden West ran 32 yards on 10 carries.
Alvord finished with 208 yards on 46 carries and 61 yards on six of 16 pass attempts.
Nocona suffered a 60-26 loss to Jacksboro Friday night. Both Henrietta and Nocona are 3-1 in 5-2A with losses coming at the hands of the Tigers. With its win over the Indians, Jacksboro laid claim to the district championship.
