Petrolia’s variety boys cross country team took second place in the district meet to qualify for regionals on Saturday.

The Petrolia Boys cross country team finished second in the District 9-A meet Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Seymour.

As district runner-up, the Pirates qualified to run in the Region II cross country meet Saturday, Nov. 2 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.

Sophomore Tyler Mathews led the way with a seventh place finish in the individual standings, running his best time of the year, 18 minutes, 52 seconds.

Other team members are Zach Coker, who finished with his best time of 20:21, Josh Mathews with 20:44, Gage Williams with his best of the year at 20:54, and rounded out with Ryan Harrison and Tanner Welch.

Varsity girls who competed in the district meet are, in order of finish, Kirsten Kenyon, Abby Pennartz, Emily Pennartz, Bailey Bradshaw, Faith Reeves and Tessa Berend.

In the boys junior high division, Hunter Baker finished in 11th place overall, followed by Jake Edgemon, Taylor Colley, Jacob Stacy, Bailey Sternadel, Seth McShan, Peyton Macklin and Keaton Southerland.

Junior high girls competed at district finished in the following order: Katelyn Washburn, Alayna Green and Krista King.
