Pirates fall to 0-2 in district with loss to Munday


Petrolia gave up 13 points in the fourth quarter Friday night, falling to Munday 26-0, and dropping to 0-2 in District 8-A Div. II play.

The Pirates held the Moguls scoreless through most of the first half. Munday scored on a 58-yard run in the second quarter to take a 7-0 into halftime. The Moguls would score again in the third quarter, this time on a 18-yard pass play.

Munday’s fourth quarter scores came on runs of 15 and 12 yards, respectively.

The Moguls dominated Petrolia on the ground, rolling up 407 yards rushing on 47 carries. The Moguls completed two of two pass attempts for 49 yards.

Pirate quarterback Dustin Hanusch completed 11 of 24 pass attempts for 103 yards and one interception. Bandy Mataska took seven receptions for 86 yards. Mataska also led the Pirates in rushing with 10 carries for 37 yards. Petrolia totaled 68 yards rushing on 22 carries.

The Pirates have lost four games after starting the season at 3-0.
