Two New Mexico residents were transported to area hospitals after their car struck a tractor-trailer on Hwy. 287 near Bellevue Friday night.

A wreck involving a compact car and a tractor-trailer sent two people to area hospitals late Friday night.

The accident happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Hwy. 287, two-and-a-half miles north of Bellevue.

Damon Thomas, 44, of Vernon, pulled his truck and trailer out of the parking lot of DW’s Adult Video store in an attempt to turn into the northbound lanes of Hwy. 287.

A late model Toyota Prius struck Thomas’ truck as he crossed the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Prius, Allen Whitesell of Albuquerque, N.M., 68, was transported by ambulance to United Regional hospital in Wichita Falls. A passenger, Patricia Whitesell, 66, also of Albuquerque, N.M., was taken by ambulance to Bowie Memorial Hospital.

Both suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured in the accident.

Thomas was ticketed for failure to yield right-of-way.
