The Clay County Art Association marks its 55th year by holding the annual arts and crafts show in conjunction with the Pioneer Reunion and Rodeo on the courthouse square Saturday, Sept. 21.
The event will feature caricatures by Ralph Stearns at the art tent, located on the north side of the courthouse.
The art show is open to adults, age 18 and older; youth, ages 12-17; and children, ages 5-11.
A $200 award will be given for best of show in the adult division. Category prizes are $35 for first place, $30 for second and $20 for third place. Each category must have three separate entries to qualify for cash awards.
Art show categories are:
- Fine Arts – Watercolor, oils and acrylics, pastels, sculpture, graphic arts, mixed media and pottery
- Decorative arts – Tole painting, stenciling, fiber art, fabric, needlework and quilts
- Other media – Photography, computer graphics
Youth and children division awards are $20 for first place, $15 for second and $5 for third place. Ribbons also will be awarded.
Youth and children categories include art and photography.
Adult entry fees are $15 for up to three entries, and an addition $5 for each additional entry. Youth and children fees are $1 per entry.
Entries can be submitted from 8-9:30 a.m. Sept. 15, at the tent on the north side of the courthouse lawn, and must remain on display until 2 p.m., and picked up by 3 p.m. Judging begins at 10 a.m. and awards will be presented at 1 p.m.
All works to be judged, including children’s work, must be matted and framed, and equipped with wire hangers.
All works must be original. No copies or kits will be accepted.
