Gladys V. Holland of Natchitoches, La.


Gladys Vella Holland, 89, of Natchitoches, La., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at the Charlie Cemetery with Pastor Mark Hendry of the Church of Christ Faith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

Mrs. Holland was born Dec. 6, 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Thompson, who passed when she was eleven. E.K. and Lura Gray of Wichita Falls adopted her at the age of 12. She is a graduate of Wichita Falls High School. She was married to Joseph L. Holland September 5, 1942 by her father, E.K. Gray, a preacher at the Church of Christ located at 23rd and Grace in Wichita Falls. They moved to Charlie in 1956 to begin farming pecans, peaches and produce. The Holland’s owned and operated Holland’s Orchard for 49 years before moving to Natchitoches, La., to be close to their family after their retirement.

She is preceded in death by her three sisters, two brothers and one stepbrother.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph L. Holland; one daughter, Phyllis Jean Holland Surrena; two granddaughters and three great-grandsons.

Memorials can be made to the Charlie Cemetery.
