A memorial fund has been set to benefit the family of Daniel Wiley, the 9-year-old boy who died from the accidental discharge of a firearm Friday, Aug. 2 at a Deer Creek residence.
Donations to the Daniel Wiley Memorial Fund can be made through the online fundraising site YouCaring.com. Proceeds will be used to cover funeral and other final expenses for Daniel.
The organizer of the fundraiser, an anonymous friend of Nona Bowman, Daniel’s mother, of Harrisburg, Ill., has set a goal of $10,000. As of Sunday night, the fund has raised $760. The fundraising effort continues until Oct. 7.
Daniel died while he and a 13-year-old stepbrother were handling a 12-gauge shotgun at his grandparents home in the 3200 block of Whitaker Road. The firearm was accidentally discharged, striking the boy.
Danny Bowman, 56, of Deer Creek, has been charged with abandoning or endangering a child in connection with the death.
