Texas Ranger Marshall Thomas and CCSO Chief Deputy Mark Elgin search for evidence in the backyard of a residence in Deer Creek, where a young boy was shot Friday afternoon.

A 9-year-old boy died of an apparent gun shot wound at a Deer Creek residence Friday afternoon. Emergency personnel and law enforcement were called to the scene at about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2.

As of 9:35 p.m., investigators remain on scene. The incident happened at a home in the 3200 block of Whitaker Road, at the intersection of FM 1883. The home belongs to Danny and Mary Bowman, grandparents of the victim.

Law enforcement focused on the backyard of the residence in its search for evidence. One person was taken into custody at about 9:15 p.m.

Sheriff Kenny Lemons was not available for comment.
