Martha McCandless of Henrietta


Martha Helen McCandless, 85, of Henrietta, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, July 19 at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Henrietta with Rev. Doug Gaskey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Henrietta under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.

Mrs. McCandless was born Feb. 28, 1928 in Chillicothe to Elzie E. and Grace V. (Vernon) Allsup. She was retired from Levi Strauss. She was a member of Grace Temple Baptist Church, where she served and taught Sunday School. She was a volunteer for Clay County Outreach and won several awards for her dedication in her volunteer work.

She is preceded in death by one sister, Betty Lou Kasner and husband Larry; and one sister-in-law, Betty Jane Allsup.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Nichols of Wichita Falls; two step-sons, Richard McCandless and wife Margie of Bowie, and Burl McCandless and wife Debbie of Bowie; two step-daughters, Linda Knott of Seguin, and Mamie Joe May of Seguin; two brothers, Howard Allsup of Dickson, Tenn., and Jimmy Allsup of Vernon; one sister Winnie Ruth Skipper and husband Gerald of Jackson, Tenn.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Davis Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
