Burkes siblings, Hand win all-around titles in 4-H horse show

The annual Clay County 4-H Horse Show was held Saturday, May 11 at the Red River Cow Palace in Dean. Twenty-one 4-H members competed in 14 events including.

Skee Burkes won the senior division all-around championship, while Kalico Burkes won the intermediate all-around title and Kat Hand earned the junior all-around championship. All-around reserve championships were earned by intermediate division competitor Daniel Wimberley and junior Rexa Hand. In the senior division, Mikayla Graham and Katie Jo Blanscet tied for the all-around title.

All-around champions in each division were awarded buckles, while reserve champions earned trophy halters. Winners in each event earned cash prizes.

Judging this year’s event was Heather Young of Whitesboro. Scott Cleveland served as ring steward. Russell Harrison and L.C. Harrison of Dean supplied cattle.

“The 4-H Horse Club would like to thank everyone who supported their fund raising efforts in order to make the show possible,” said Missy Hodgin, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agent.

The district 4-H Horse Show will be June 19-22 in Vernon.
