Down one game in the softball regional semifinal, Petrolia’s Lady Pirates roared to life Saturday, claiming back-to-back wins and advancing to the Class A, Region I final.
The Lady Pirates devastated Haskell in Game 2 of the series, 10-0, and overcame a Haskell lead in game three, 5-4.
Petrolia took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game two, and added three runs in the fourth and five runs in the sixth innings. Petrolia collected 10 hits and took advantage of five Haskell errors.
Mallory Ridinger led the team with three RBI’s and a run, while Katie Cummings had two RBI’s and a run. Sidney Mobley finished with two RBI’s, while Cory Chase had two runs. Kody Mataska had one RBI and one run. Cummings, Chase and Mataska all doubled.
The Lady Pirates held Haskell scoreless despite giving up six hits. Petrolia committed one error.
The two teams combined for 21 hits in Game 3, and committed two errors each.
Haskell scored one run in the second inning, and led 2-1 after the third. Petrolia added two runs in the fourth inning and again in the fifth. Haskell scored two in the sixth inning.
Abby Anderson led the Lady Pirate lineup with three RBI’s. Kirsten Kenyon finished with a pair of doubles. Ridinger scored two runs and an RBI and Ryanne Macklin had one RBI.
Petrolia (22-7) faces Albany in the Region I Final. Game 1 of the series is set for 6 p.m. Friday, May 24 in Graham. Games 2 is 5 p.m. Saturday, May 25 in Graham, with Game 3 to follow.
