Rose Mary Schroeder, 84, of Windthorst, passed away Wednesday, May. 8 in Wichita Falls.

A vigil service and rosary will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, May 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Windthorst. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11 with Rev. Jack McKone, Pastoral Administrator of St. Mary’s, and Deacon Don Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Windthorst under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Mrs. Schroeder was born Aug. 22, 1928 to George Leonard Humpert and Lucy Mary Zihlman Humpert in Windthorst. She graduated as salutatorian of Windthorst High School.

She married Lawrence Schroeder on Nov. 5, 1947 in Windthorst. She was employed for Berend Brothers for 15 years and retired after a bout with cancer. Rose Mary was a 33-year cancer survivor. She was a seamstress who sewed for the public, made wedding cakes. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies. She served on the Windthorst City Council, St. Mary’s Parish Council and as a 4-H leader for many years. She was an Archer County Gold-Star Girl, a member of the Christian Mother’s Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas No. 296 where she held several offices in each group.

She is preceded in death by husband Lawrence Schroeder, on May 24, 1978; two brothers, Harold Humpert and Floyd Humpert; two grandchildren, Diane Wolf and Aaron Schroeder; and two great-grandchildren, Michaela Hoff and Carson Neeb.

Survivors include two sons, Harold Schroeder and wife Sherry (Moffatt) of Bremond, and Lawrence “Butch” Schroeder and wife Diane (Veitenheimer) of Windthorst; five daughters, Luciann “Ann” Hertel and husband Tim of Windthorst, Cindy Frerich and husband Donnie of Windthorst, Cathy Anderle and husband Roy of Mena, Ark., Vicki Neeb and husband Ted of Windthorst, and Jeanne Lowe and husband Jim of Henrietta; two sisters, Angie Berend of Windthorst and Margie Frazier of Wichita Falls; three brothers, Wayne “Butch” Humpert and wife Pat of Windthorst, George Humpert and wife Judy of Tulsa, Okla., and Royce Humpert and wife Sandy of Dallas; one sister-in-law, Betty Humpert of Windthorst; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
