Bearcats up one game in area round; series continues today


Henrietta took a one game lead over Senora in the area round of the state baseball playoffs Thursday, defeating the Broncos 6-1.

The Bearcats took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and added runs in the third, fifth and seventh. In all, Henrietta collected seven hits to Senora’s two. The Broncos, who had two hits and committed four errors, scored in the fourth.

Parker Kleinert, Joe Dell Williams and Nick Powell led the Bearcat bats with two hits each. Philip Davis batted in two runs. Powell and Williams had one RBI each.

Williams earned the win on the mound with six inning of work. Williams struck out nine. He faced 24 batters, throwing 105 pitches for 69 strikes. Kleinert pitched the seventh.

The series continues today in Abilene. Game two is set for 1 p.m., followed by game three if necessary.
