Henrietta swept Sonora for an Area title with Friday’s 6-3 win over the Broncos. On Thursday, Henrietta defeated Sonora 6-1.
Sonora took an early lead Friday, scoring two runs in the third inning. Henrietta answered with a three-run fourth to take the lead, and added three in the sixth inning. Sonora scored one in the six.
The win came on eight hits from the Bearcats — including doubles from Philip Davis and Joe Dell Williams — while Sonora committed five errors. Henrietta remained error-free in the series. Sonora collected five hits.
Nick Powell finished with one RBI.
Ben Fletcher earned the win with seven innings pitched. Fletcher struck out six of 32 batters faced.
The Bearcats took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of Thursday’s game, and added runs in the third, fifth and seventh. In all, Henrietta collected seven hits to Senora’s two. The Broncos, who had two hits and committed four errors, scored in the fourth.
Parker Kleinert, Joe Dell Williams and Nick Powell led the Bearcat bats with two hits each. Philip Davis batted in two runs. Powell and Williams had one RBI each.
Williams earned the win on the mound with six inning of work. Williams struck out nine. He faced 24 batters, throwing 105 pitches for 69 strikes. Kleinert pitched the seventh.
With the series under wraps, Henrietta advances to the Region I semifinal, and will face either Wall or Eastland.
