“Romeo” Kaleb Gwin, and “Juliet” Serenity McNett are joined on stage by Trent Yurcho in the role of Monk Larry during play practice Sunday afternoon. The Henrietta High Class of 2013 presents “The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet” on Saturday.
The Henrietta Class of 2013 will present “The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet”, a short comedy by playwright Peter Bloedel, at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11 in the Tyra Roper Auditorium.
With the production returns the tradition of the senior to Henrietta High School after a 30-year hiatus. The last senior play was presented in 1983.
A cast and crew of 23 are taking part in the play, with Kaleb Gwin and Serenity McNett playing the lead roles of Romeo and Juliet. Publisher Playscripts, Inc. describes “The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet” as “a whimsical reinvention of Shakespeare’s tragic love story, complete with rhymed couplets, creative wordplay, and fantastical machines, similar to something Dr. Seuss might have come up with if he ever had his way with the script.”
The senior play will serve as a fundraiser for Project Graduation, and will feature a live auction during intermission. Auction items include a baseball autographed by Elvis Andrus, short stop for the Texas Rangers, donated by the Rangers organization; a handmade cedar hope chest handcrafted by Tim Burch; a Texas-themed quilt made by Joan Schaffner and Vicki Yurcho, and quilted by Aunt Pam’s Closet; a senior t-shirt quilt made by Lila Wylie; Pizza for a Year, a gift certificate for one single-topping pizza for each month of the year, donated by Simple Simons; a rick of firewood, donated by Todd and Tina Davis; and Dessert for a Year, a gift certificate for one dessert each month for 12 months, made by Stewart’s Sweet Stop.
Admission to the play is $10 for adults and $3 for students.
