Henrietta advances to the area round of the state baseball playoffs after taking a two-game series win over Merkel for a bi-district title May 3-4.
The Bearcats scored at least one run in each of five innings Friday in Mineral Wells to open the series with an 11-1 win over Merkel.
Philip Davis led the charge for Henrietta with a home run five RBIs. Davis had two hits for the night. Conner Fletcher got three hits for a pair of RBIs.
Henrietta opened with the game with a three-run first inning, and added five runs in the fourth. The Bearcats collected 12 hits and no errors.
Joe Dell Williams earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings for seven strikeouts.
Davis came one swing away from hitting for the cycle in game two in Graham Saturday. Davis hit a single, double and triple in the 11-1 win in Graham to finish with three RBIs. Parker Kleinert and Ben Fletcher had two hits each. Fletcher finished with two RBIs, and Kleinert had one.
Henrietta collected 10 hits to score two runs in the first and third innings, four in the fourth and three in the fifth. Merkel scored its lone run in the fourth. Merkel had three hits and committed two errors.
Ben Fletcher earned the win with five innings of work on the mound. Fletcher finished with 10 strikeouts against 19 batters.
The Bearcats will face Senora in a best-of-three series to be held at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. Game one of the series begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by games two and three, if necessary, at 1 p.m. Friday.
