Seniors from Henrietta High School compete in last year’s inaugural Turkey Fest Scholarship Barrel Race.

High school seniors in Clay County have the opportunity to compete for $1,500 in college funds during Saturday’s Turkey Fest activities on the courthouse square by participating in the Scholarship Barrel Race.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m., and will be held in the 100 block of North Bridge Street.

Teams consist of three graduating seniors enrolled in a Clay County high school, and must consist of boys and girls. Their task is to build a contraption that can be pushed, pulled, pedaled or carried through a timed barrel race. The contraption must resemble a turkey.

Entries will be judged on a 100-point scale, with up to 50 points awarded for design.

Participants must meet at the courthouse bandstand at 11:30 a.m. to enter. “Turkeys” must be complete at the time of registration.

The winning team will be awarded $500 per team member at graduation.
