Frank W. Slayton of Rule


Frank W. Slayton, 79, of Rule, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 in Abilene.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23 at the First Baptist Church in Rule with Rev. Robert Slayton and Rev. Scott Hensley officiating. Burial will be in the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Rev. Slayton was born on March 13, 1933 in Kaufman to Sam and Lily Pearl (Stephens) Slayton. He married Cynthia Kizzia in Terrell on Feb. 14, 1953. On Nov. 4, 1976, he was ordained as Reverend Frank Slayton at Eastside Baptist Church in Haskell by Rev. Jimmy Griffith. He went on to the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Rule, Peacock Baptist Church in Peacock, Swenson Baptist Church in Swenson, and First Christian Church of Haskell. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rule.

He is preceded in death by his three brothers, Charles Slayton, Robert Slayton, and Curtis Slayton.

Survivors include wife Cynthia of Rule; three sons, Michael Slayton and wife Mary of Bellevue, Jim Slayton and wife Diane of Mineola, and Robert Slayton and wife Kathy of Bellevue; two daughters, Elaine Chaney and husband Paul of Midland, and Kimberly Mansell and husband Bryan of Haskell; a sister, Janelle Sonntagg and husband Richard of Mesquite; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 22 from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Rule.
