Shining Stars cheer team qualify for Disney Land competition

Members of the Shining Stars competitive cheer team are Caitlin Taliani, Katelyn Washburn of Petrolia, Sherese Price, Taira Johnson, Kiana Hayes, Kaitlyn Horn of Midway, Kabrey Hoskins, Rachel Morrow of Henrietta, Kenzie Nixon of Henrietta, Madison Christian of Henrietta, Candace Greene, Lydia Jones, Coach Kayla Brown and Sami Deford.

Nocona Cheer Unlimited competitive cheer team, The Shinning Stars, Coached by Kayla Brown, Jolinda Bagwill and Chris Beaver, competed in the Cheer Power Southern National Cheerleading Championship in San Antonio Feb. 8-9.

After competing Friday and Saturday for a combined score, The Shining Stars left San Antonio as Junior Level 1 champions earning Cheer Power National jackets. They also walked away as Grand Champions over 47 other teams winning Grand Champion rings, a $500 check for the gym, and a paid bid to the varsity event, The Summit at Disney World in May.

Only 67 paid bids are awarded nationwide. In cheerleading, The Summit is the world for levels 1-4, the Superbowl of competitive cheerleading.

Shining Stars has won six of the last 7 competitions this season, and have two more competitions before going to Disney World. The next competition will be in March at NCA where they will compete against teams from all over the world. They will be have fundraisers to help pay for their flight and food at The Summit competition in May.

Team members representing Clay County are Henrietta students Madison Christian, Kenzie Nixon and Rachel Morrow, Midway student Kaitlyn Horn, and Petrolia student Katelyn Washburn. Other members are from Montague County.
