Lady Eagles earn first playoff win since ’03; Petrolia falls

Regional quarterfinal update: Bellevue vs. Yantis – 7 p.m. Tuesday at Prosper

Bellevue’s Lady Eagles earned their first playoff victory since 2003 in Van Alstyne Friday night, earning an Area championship and advancing to the Region III quarterfinal.

The Lady Eagles will face Yantis in the regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Prosper High School.

Petrolia’s season came to a close in the Area round.

Bellevue Lady Eagles

With a 21-point fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles defeated Fruitvale 56-38.

Bellevue opened with an 11-5 lead in the first quarter, and by halftime had outscored the Lady Cats 22-14. The Lady Eagles continued their drive with a 13-7 third, and held Fruitvale to 17 points in the fourth.

Bailey Terry led the Lady Eagles with 21 points, followed by Bailey Schroeder with 14. Emily Barnett scored eight, while Destiny Watkins and Amber Bush put in four points each. Cassidy York and Hannah McWilliams scored two each. Kimberley Morrow added a free throw.

The win improved Bellevue’s record to 27-5.

Petrolia Lady Pirates

Petrolia fell to Hico 41-32 Friday to finish the season with a 19-13 record.

Hico outscored the Lady Pirates 9-8 in the first quarter, and 9-7 in the second. Petrolia came back after the half with a 12-8 third quarter, earning a short-lived lead, but Hico would prove too much in the fourth, scoring 15 to Petrolia’s five.

Abby Anderson led the Lady Pirates with 10 points. Macey Hall added nine points on three three-pointers. Kirsten Kenyon scored seven, followed by Allie Ablia with five and Baylee Moore with one.

Petrolia shot seven of 12 from the free throw line.
