The Bearcats played well Monday night, but were only able to leave the court with one victory in the three games against Nocona. The eighth grade boys clinched the second seed for the district tournament this weekend with a 37-19 victory, avenging an earlier two-point loss to the Indians. The seventh grade boys fell to the hands of Nocona 43-33 and will enter the district tournament as the fifth seed. In the seventh grade “B” game it was Nocona winning 20-7.
The tournament opened Thursday at 5:30 p.m. In the Henrietta High School old gym, with the seventh grade facing Jacksboro The eighth grade received a first-round bye and will face either Bowie or City View on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Henrietta new gym. Tournament games will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. Games on Saturday will occupy both gyms.
Eighth Grade ‘A’
Corbin Douthitt led the scoring for the Bearcats with 13 points plus had several key rebounds on both ends of the floor. Ethan Scholl had six points which included a three-point basket. Mason Hanson scored five, second-half points to join Blaine Long’s five, first-half points that included a three-pointer in the first quarter. Ben McCreary had four points to go along with several key rebounds. Kandon Bennett and Dillon Flowers each had two points in the first quarter. Bennett had several assists while Flowers had a good night on the boards with key rebounds and blocked shots. It was an overall good night for the Bearcats as the victory secured a second seed for the tournament. The Bearcats are now 9-2 overall and 7-2 in district.Henrietta 8 9 9 11 — 37 Nocona 5 4 7 3 — 19
Seventh Grade ‘A’
The Bearcats showed much improvement Monday night, but fell short of a victory. Free throws made a huge difference in the contest at Nocona hit 13 of 20 from the charity stripe while the Bearcats converted on one free throw in two attempts. Zack West led the scoring with 10 points including a pair of three-pointers and had the only free throw attempts. Patrick Holcomb had his best night scoring eight points, six coming in the second half. Brody Offield had five points for the Bearcats and Noah Mabry scored four. Seth Sanderson, Jayson Nixon and Ross Cantwell each had two points to help the Bearcat scoring. Maybry also had a blocked shot. Seventh Grade ‘B’
Gage Stewart led all Bearcat scoring with four points while J.C. Smith scored a pair of points and Garrett Duncan dropped in a free throw. All of the Bearcats played well in the game.Henrietta 5 2 — 7 Nocona 6 14 — 20
