Midway’s varsity boys handed Bellevue its first District 21-A Div. II loss of the season Friday night, 65-55.
Despite the loss, Bellevue will likely claim the district title, needing only a win over Slidell or Forestburg. Midway will be tied for second with a win over Slidell.
The Falcons earned the win on a 27-point first quarter, outscoring Bellevue by 15 points. Midway again topped the Eagles in the second for a 42-15 lead at halftime. The Eagles fought back in the second half, but ran short of time. The Eagles topped Midway 14-13 in the third and, with Falcon shooter Ben Forester fouled out, 18-10 in the fourth.
Midway’s Brody Wilson led all scorers with 20 points, scoring five three-pointers in the first half. Forester scored 16 for the Falcons, followed by Logan Harper with 10, Brent Jones with nine and Ryan Terry and Mark Nall scoring two points each.
Tyler Terry led Bellevue with 15 points, while Broc Terry and Brandt Cassetty put up 13 each. Cassetty landed three threes in the first half. Matthew Belcher scored 11 points. John Grunseich added two and Jakob Watkins pitched in a free throw.
Midway scored 12 of 19 free throws, while Bellevue hit 11 of 17.
