With the Henrietta High School gym near capacity, Holliday held off the Bearcats Tuesday night, 54-44.
The two teams were evenly matched. Henrietta came into the game with a 19-3 record, while Holliday had a 22-3 record. Both teams were undefeated in DIstrict 8-2A.
Henrietta and Holliday went shot for shot in all but one quarter, which decided the game.
An early Holliday run came to an end on a Philip Davis three-pointer in the first, giving Henrietta a 12-9 lead into the second. But the Bearcats struggled from the free throw line in the second quarter, scoring only nine in the period while allowing Holliday 21 points. The Eagles outscored Henrietta 15-14 in the third quarter. Both teams scored nine in the fourth.
Nick Powell and Cole Burns led the Bearcats with 15 points each. Ben Flether scored six, followed by Davis and Matthew Reed with three points each and Dalton Davidson with two points. Holliday had 37 rebounds to Henrietta’s 24. Burns led the Bearcats with eight boards.
