Buyers in the Clay County Junior Livestock Show premium and Youth Fair auctions made a strong showing Saturday night, driving prices well above last year’s totals, marking a third-straight year of growth.

The increase was due in part to a near record premium for the grand champion steer shown by Klayton Hoff of the Henrietta FFA. 4K Energy Services of Weatherford purchased the steer for $5,250, more than double last year’s premium.

Overall, the livestock premium auction brought in $5,125 more than last year, totaling $63,775 before add-ons. The Youth Fair auction also saw an increase, as bidders paid $4,475, topping last year’s total by $625 before add-ons.

The Henrietta Kiwanis Club buyers’ pool raised $8,795 this year, purchasing 17 of the 103 lots. Donations remaining in the pool after the auction was compete were divided among the lots.

Billy Easter of Wichita Livestock, a longtime supporter of the Clay County Junior Livestock Show, purchased the floor with winning bids of $60 per hundredweight on 13 head of hogs, $155 per hundredweight on 37 meat goats and $100 per hundredweight on four market lambs.

Scott Schroeder of Windthorst won the Junior Livestock Association’s drawing for a bumper-pull utility trailer.
