Petrolia Pirates, Lady Pirates suffer losses to Archer City

Unable to sustain a first-quarter lead, Petrolia’s Pirates lost the District 10-A opener to Archer City Tuesday night.

The Pirates outscored Archer City 10-5 in the first quarter, but the Wildcats came alive in the second to score 18. The Wildcats led 23-15 at halftime. Petrolia bested Archer city in the third period, 11-10, but fell further behind with a 14-13 fourth.

Chase Hall and Ryan Harrison led the Pirates with 12 points each. Six of Harrison’s 12 came from outside the three-point arc. Bandy Mataska scored nine, followed by Joe Don Brock, Adam Sandoval and Simeon Trevino with two points each. The team shot seven of 15 from the free throw line.

Petrolia’s JV boys outscored Archer City two-to-one for a 30-15 win.

Petrolia Lady Pirates

Archer City outscored Petrolia in all but one quarter Tuesday night, taking a 40-32 win over the Lady Pirates.

The Lady Pirates had a 10-6 second quarter, but were outscored 14-13 in the first, 11-7 in the third and 9-2 in the fourth.

Macey Hall scored three three-pointers to lead the lady Pirates with nine points. Katie Cummings and Abbie Anderson followed with five points each, while Allie Ablia and Danica Bustos scored four each. Kirsten Kenyon scored three points and Alyssa Wesley added two.

Petrolia struggled at the free throw line, hitting three of 13 attempts.
