Lady Pirates fall in District opener; Pirates take loss to Haskell

With a 41-33 loss to Windthorst Friday night, Petrolia’s Lady Pirates got an 0-1 start in District 10-A Div. I play.

The Trojanetts outgunned the Lady Pirates 14-2 in the first quarter, and again in the second, 16-14. Petrolia held Windthorst two two points in the third, while scoring 10. Windthorst again topped Petrolia in the fourth, 9-7.

Danica Bustos led the Lady Pirates with 10 points, followed by Baylee Moore with seven. Allie Ablia added six point. Katie Cummings and Abby Anderson scored four points each. Alyssa Wesley scored two.

Petrolia’s varsity Pirates fell to Haskell, 61-50, on the hardwood Friday night despite an eight-point lead at halftime.

The Pirates outscored Haskell 18-10 in the first period. Both teams sunk 17 in the second. But the Pirates struggled in the second half, and fell to the Indians 17-6 in the third and 17-9 in the fourth.

Ryan Harrison led the Pirates with 19 points, followed by Chase Hall with 11, Body Mataska with eight and Adam Sandoval with three. Simeon Trevino, Joe Don Brock, Jadon Lane and Tyler Tucker scored two points each. Harrison scored two three-pointers. The Pirates hit 12 of 19 from the free throw line.

The JV Pirates suffered a 35-32 loss to Haskell.
