Henrietta’s junior high boys basketball teams opened the season with an impressive record.
The Bearcats snagged a pair of convincing victories against City View in their home opener on Dec. 3. It was the Seventh Grade Black winning easily 32-1 while the Eight Grade Gold handled City View 40-12. An intersquad game was held with the seventh and eighth grade teams since City View did not have the numbers for a “B” game.
The Bearcats split with Bowie Monday, Dec. 10. It was the eighth grade Bearcats taking a pair from the Jackrabbits while the seventh grade came up short in both games. Bowie won against the 7th Grade White team 27-12 while the Black team lost 54-15. In 8th Grade action, the gold team remained unbeaten with a 42-21 win while the black team won 35-21.

Zack West led the charges for the Bearcats with 13 points, eight in the first quarter. Patrick Holcomb and Trey Essler each had four points and Seth Sanderson scored three points. Jordan Hanson, Jayson Nixon, Brody Offield and Noah Mabry scored two points each.

Mason Hanson took the top scoring honors with 10 points including a pair of three-pointers followed by Blaine Long with nine points (one, three-pointer) and Corbin Douthitt had eight points. Kandon Bennett had six points, Ben McCreary scored five points and Dillon Flowers scored two.

Garrett Duncan was the leading scorer with six points followed by J.C. Smith scoring career high four points and Ryan Greene with two points.

Patrick Holcomb was the top Bearcat scorer with seven points, Zack West contributed five points and Ross Cantwell added three points.

Skylar Castro had his career high scoring with 15 points, nine in the first half. Garrett Carr scored in double digits with 10 points while Cody Franklin, Caleb Cody and Trey Davis each had two points. Tyler Lujan scored four points for the Bearcats.

Kandon Bennett had his best night connecting with 19 points which included two, three-pointers. Blaine Long followed with 10 points with a three-pointer, Corbin Douthitt scored six points, Chris Offield had five points and Ben McCreary hit two free throws.
