After playing through illness en route to Henrietta’s Fantasy of Lights championship Saturday, Nick Powell appears to be feeling much better.
Tuesday night, Powell scored 24 points to lead the Bearcats in a 63-50 win over Vernon.
The Lions took an early, holding the Bearcats 16-10 in the first quarter. By halftime, Henrietta was back to within one point of a tie game, outscoring Vernon 16-11 in the second period.
The difference came in the third, when Henrietta posted 24 points to take the lead, 50-37. Vernon outscored the Bearcats 13-12 in the fourth.
Powell was accurate from the three-point arc, landing three buckets. Matthew Reed shared with a pair of three-pointers, while Dalton Davidson scored one.
Cole Burns worked the paint for 17 points, followed by Reed with eight, Davidson and Ben Fletcher with five points each, and Philip Davis and Myles Marchman with two points each.
Henrietta is 6-0 this season.
The JV Bearcats improved to 5-0 with a 48-30 win over Vernon earlier in the day. With a smothering defense, Henrietta held the Lions to single digits in all four periods. Tanner Ramos led three players in double figures with 15. Cody Fletcher and Nick Offield each scored 11. Ramos also had six assists and Offield led the team with eight rebounds.
