Lady Pirates takes second with loss in FOL championship game

Despite a dynamite performance from Danica Bustos, Petrolia’s Lady Pirates struggled with a strong Texoma Christian team in Saturday’s Fantasy of Lights Div. III championship game, held at 1:30 p.m., falling to the Lady Eagles 51-42 To finish in second place.

Bustos led the Lady Pirates with 18 points in the game, including three-pointers in the second and fourth quarters. Bustos and Allie Ablia were named to the Div. III all-tournament team.

Texoma Christian outscored Petrolia 15-6 in the first quarter, a difference that Petrolia never recovered. Both teams added eight points in the second, but Texoma Christian came out on top again in the third, 12-8.

Petrolia posted 20 points in the fourth, outscoring Texoma Christian by four.

Katie Cummings followed Bustos in the points column with nine. Abby Anderson added five and Ablia had four points. Madison Oliver, Baylee Moore and Alyssa Wesley scored two points each.

The Lady Pirates hits eight of 16 free throw attempts.

Bustos fouled out in the final seconds of the game.

Petrolia opened the tournament Friday with pool play wins over Eldorado, Okla., and Prairie Valley before defeating Archer City 35-34 in the Div. III semifinal Saturday morning. See related story.
