J.B. Nichols of Byers


J.B. Nichols, 88, of Byers, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, in Henrietta.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday Nov. 25 at Riverside Cemetery in Byers with Mr. Mike Priddy of Byers officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.

Mr. Nichols was born April 27, 1924 in Sopher, Okla., to Ben B. and Lola (Riddle) Nichols. He married Dorothy Graves on Dec. 31, 1949 in Byers. Mr. Nichols served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was at Pearl Harbor. Mr. Nichols was the purchasing manager for Bailey Meissner Company and Morrison Supply in Wichita Falls, working well into his 70s. He worked 50 years in the Wholesale plumbing business. He was a member of the Byers Methodist Church, coached little league baseball for years, and served on the Byers school board several times.

Mr. Nichols is preceded in death by three brothers, Julius “Smokey” Nichols, Howard “Buck” Nichols and Luther Nichols; and three sisters Lena O’Brien, Lucille Tucker and Lydia Tomlin.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nichols of Byers; a daughter, Jay Ann Craig of Wichita Falls; a son, Howard Nichols and wife Ruth Ann of Byers; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
