Lady Cats open basketball season at 1-1


Henrietta’s Lady Cats opened the 2012-13 basketball season this week for a 1-1 record.

Anni Scholl led the Lady Cats to a 50-46 win over Saint Jo Saturday, Nov. 10. Scholl scored 14 points, followed by Annelise Sauer with 10, Kamryn Weaver with eight and Katie Jo Blanscet with six points.

Blanscet had eight rebounds, while Weaver had five. Sauer finished with five steals. Scholl and Blanscet had four steals each and Weaver finished with three steals

Strong defensive play from the Lady Cats in the third quarter made the difference in the game. Saint Jo outscored Henrietta 11-10 in the first quarter and17-16 in the second, but the Lady Cats held the Panthers to a mere six points in the third, while adding 16. Henrietta again outscored Saint Jo in the fourth, 13-12.

“Very proud of these young ladies, coming straight out of a great volleyball season into basketball,” said Head Coach Danielle Hensley. “We had three days of practice as a whole team before our first game today.  It was a total team effort.”

Henrietta fell to Archer City Tuesday night, 45-33.

Archer City took an early lead, beating the Lady Cats 16-9 in the first quarter, but Henrietta narrowed the Wildcat lead with a 11-5 second quarter. The Lady Cats struggled in the second half, falling further behind with a 15-9 third quarter, and a 9-4 fourth.

Scholl scored 10 points for Henrietta, followed by Blanscet with eight. Blanscet led the team in rebounds with eight, while Scholl had seven rebounds and six steals.

The varsity Lady Cats host Pilot Point Friday at 5:30 p.m.
